Is Malaga worth visiting beyond the beach?
Absolutely — Malaga has reinvented itself as a genuine cultural city-break destination over the past decade. The Picasso Museum, Centre Pompidou Malaga, and the Alcazaba fortress overlooking the city are all excellent, and the Soho district has become a real contemporary art and street-art neighbourhood. Most first-time visitors are surprised by how much there is to do beyond the coastline.
What is the Caminito del Rey and is it worth the day trip?
A dramatic walkway built into a gorge cliff face, about an hour from Malaga. It's genuinely spectacular and one of Andalusia's best day trips, but tickets must be booked online well in advance — they sell out, especially in summer. Not suitable for anyone with a serious fear of heights, though the walkway itself is fully secured with railings.
When is the best time to visit Malaga?
April–June and September–October offer the best balance of warm weather (22–28°C) and manageable crowds. July–August is very hot (often 35°C+) and the beaches are packed with domestic Spanish tourists. Winter is mild by northern European standards (15–18°C) and increasingly popular for a short warm-weather city break.
