Is Dubrovnik too crowded in summer?

July and August are extremely busy — cruise ship passenger numbers mean the Old Town is at capacity by 10am on many days. The city has introduced visitor limits and some areas are restricted during peak hours. Visit in May, June, September or October for similar weather with far fewer crowds. Early morning (before 9am) or evening walks on the walls are magical even in peak season.

How do you get around Dubrovnik?

The Old Town is car-free and entirely walkable — most attractions are within a 15-minute walk of each other. Public buses connect the Old Town with the cable car, Lapad beach and the ferry port. Taxis and Ubers are available for longer distances. The ferry to Lokrum Island departs from the Old Harbour every 30 minutes in season.

What currency does Croatia use?

Croatia joined the Eurozone on 1 January 2023 and now uses the Euro (€). Most places accept cards, but smaller restaurants, markets and boat trips often prefer cash. Bring a supply of small-denomination Euros.
